Getting recordings of your students online

Better than walking around a class, trying to assess your students speaking, why not record them?

Always try to find something interesting to talk about - films and music are good for a start. So go to youtube.com and choose one of your favourite films. Here's an example trailer:




Now it's time to say why you chose this particular film. I recorded myself on Audacity, exported the file as an mp3 and saved it to Podomatic.com (you need to register to join)

Do this as an example in class and then get all the students to post their own trailers and get them to podcast their reasons. They could also either podcast a response to one of their colleagues' trailers or simply write in text.

You can of course, video yourself while recording, but watching someone's nashers go up and down isn't particularly interesting. More fun is to use VOKI characters. You have to register as usual, then create an animated character and upload an MP3 and watch the character say your words. Here's an example:

Well, I wish I had exam classes because then I could use the excellent voicethread site. You can upload your choice of pics from flickrstorm or some from your own personal collection. Then comment on them and embed into your blog. Here's an example:
